SCHOSCHE PDM MOUNTS

Given the fact that this 4Runner is outfitted with lights on all corners and the accessory counts are plentiful, it’s vital that we’re able to control all of those things right at your finger tips. The interface system chosen was the Scosche M8RIX Power system. To obtain control from the supplied touchscreens, I needed to figure out the necessary mounting of the Power Management System.

We went back and forth on mounting the PDM’s - was there enough room, how would the wiring be best ran, are they prone to heat soak, what about water lodging from the potential elements… all questions we were asking as we debated the final mounting areas. What I ultimately decided was to either mount one atop the ABS braking system in the top left or above/beside the air box.

In front of would have been great, but I’d already sourced and remounted the windshield washer tank and new pumps in that area. I’d decided than to mount it beside the airbox, but laid down versus vertically. This would in turn provide room below it and keep it(PDM) from potentially contacting the power steering reservoir.

After cutting out the center most mount, I located some OEM holes along the fender well as well as rivnuting some holes on the back firewall. Some standoffs were then added to the center mount with some .5” 4130 tube to connect it all together. A couple coats of Steel-it was applied and I was good to mount it up with some fresh S.S. hardware.

For the PDM mounting alongside the airbox, I cut up another center mount but notched out a portion of it to clear the power steering reservoir. The 4 outermost holes capture the PDM to the mount while two mounts protrude off the front. One captures the upper radiator shroud bolt, and the other two mount up to the relocated windshield washer tank. I added some clearance to the standoff to allow for the data cable to snake around, and the terminator plug to protrude through.

After some DEI heat tape was applied I tidied up the data cables and ignition cables and ran them securely throughout their entire run. I opted to run the front PDM cables to the core support and along the passenger fender well. They then meet up with the back PDM where they then run along the backside of the firewall towards the battery up front.
