4RUNNER ACCESSORY TRAY

During a previous visit with this 4Runner, I had gone through the rock light system, worked on some of the exhaust, and built out a rear carrier for a propane tank and water jug. After cutting the front fenders and completing a body mount chop, the idea was brought up regarding the rear end. The spare tire was relocated to the swinger off the back of the rig, and with that being done, a tray was built to house an onboard compressor and some air horns. What was asked was that I rebuild that, refine it and rebuild the rear skid while still retaining a high departure angle.

After locating and labeling the wiring, I went ahead and cleared everything out. Some old brackets were removed and I cleaned up the area in which the designed structure would fit into place for final welding.

4130 Chromoly was used for this structure to retain the strength but to also keep the weight down. Wall thicknesses and overall tube diameters vary, not only for the aforementioned, but also to allow for the larger compressor and real-estate of the air compressors to fit snugly within the voids within.

Fit into place and welded in, tabs were added to mount the two-piece skidplate. A rigid rock light was added too for serviceability and new drainage routing was completed for the compressor tank.
