4RUNNER CHASE BAR SPOILER Jun 10 Written By A N D R X W The lighting package on the 4Runner is turning out to be quite the setup. From 360-Series, SR-m’s and an assortment of others filling out the front end, it was time to focus on the rear. One of the ideas was to hang a rear facing Chase Bar across the rear and cover the OEM brake light - but given the location of the spoiler mounts, it turned out to be a packaging conflict. The solution?Mount the the Chase Bar within an OEM style spoiler; lower than the existing spoiler mounts, the Chase Bar fits right at home. A provision atop that allows for the OEM brake light to maintain its function(s) and still be visible. Bent to the same radius as the OEM setup, the new spoiler mounts via the existing holes. I ran some additional aluminum around the perimeter of the Chase Bars opening to encapsulate it. The same treatment was worked for the OEM brake light as well. Maintaining the curvature of the new spoiler whilst welding everything out would take some consideration in the process. Note in the photo(s) above, there’s a small strip ran from the lower section from left to right. This gave me the ability to clamp the spoiler down and tension this strip to maintain the curve. After welding was complete I was able to remove the strip, fit the lightbar in and reweld it back in. With the fitment and curvature confirmed, a test fit was in order and everything checked out as desire. I added in the lower strip and some cornering gussets to tie in below the chase bar and it then received a proper paint treatment. The Rigid Chase Bar looks right at home - the functions of the spoiler will still remain, as will the OEM brake light functions and visibility. A N D R X W
